Queen concerts were also successful beause of those guys!
Scroll if you want to learn who these guys are and what they did. You will also read about a Lord, a henna user, who had best haircut and Queen’s favorite food. (I wrote in bold letters the parts about Queen members and some funny facts.)
1. a"rigger". They assemble the stage (all 6000 square feet of it). Sometimes this can take two days, so there are two stages on this European tour. While one is being taken down at one venue, the other is being assembled at the next.
2 another "rigger".
3 John "Tumbridge" Wells, one of the security men responsible for looking after the members of Queen. "Tumbridge" looks after Brian May, escorts him wherever he goes and keeps the fans from getting too close.
4 Wally Gore group security, he looks after John Deacon
5 Alex Alexandrou, carpenter. There's two of us, and we put up all the stage scenery. I put up the walkways around the back and sides of the stage wich Freddie runs along. He likes to run on carpet, so I have to lay that down everywhere.
6. Chris "Crystal" Taylor, group coordinator. He organises all of the personal Queen crew, roadies, the security men. He makes sure they all know what they have to do and when they have to do it.
7. Jim Deveney, monitor engineer. "I sit out of sight on stage. I have to make things sound good so that the band can hear what they're doing. The sound comes through these speakers called "monitors" wich face onto the stage. The worst act I ever worked for was Rod Stewart. He was really miserable.
8. Joe Fanelli, Freddie's main personal assistant, who cooks for him at his London Home. "He likes anything really exotic, North African food, curries, good French cooking. He hates veal and doesn't eat carrots. Lambs is a bit iffy too. Brian's vegetarian but he eats fish. John likes very simple food, pie and mash and Roger likes anything but lamb.
9. Tony Williams, in charge of Queen's wardrobe. "I have to look after all of the band's stage clothes. That includes lots of details like making sure all the changes of clothes they need are backstage (Freddie changes about three times each performance), labelling the band's stage shoes (because they all wear the same stripey Adidas), and looking after Freddie's special moustache scissors. Also I have to wash all of their clothes in my hotel bedroom. My bath is always full. And Brian May has been using all this red henna do dye his hair and it comes out all over his shirts. It's very hectic".
10. Brandan Hyland, group security
11. One of the 15 "truckers" who each drive a massive 40 feet lorry loaded up with sound and lighting equipment. (For extra money they also operate the spotlights wich "follow" the group around stage).
12. Brian "Jobby" Zellis. one of Queen's personal road crew.
13 Brian May, Queen's guitarist.
14 John "Moxy" Glover, Roger Taylor's personnal roadie. "Basically I have to look after his drum kit and set it up on stage. I have to keep him supllied with drum sticks. He has sticks made with his own name on and he uses about ten sets a show. I got a bit drunk with Status Quo's roadies in Paris earlier this tour, and started throwing all his sticks in the audience.
15. Terry Giddings, group security.
16. Dieter Breit, physiotherapist for the group and crew. He has to look after any sprains and injuries that anybody might suffer, e.g. a sprained guitar-playing finger which needs massaging on Brian May's valuable hand.
17. A lighting assistant.
18. A "rigger"
19. Peter "Ratty" Hince, one of Queen's personal road crew. "I have to look after John Deacon's bass guitars and Freddie's guitar and special radio microphones (the one that don't have a fead) and keyboard instruments. I have to make sure that everything is exactly where it should be on stage, otherwise Freddie particularly will glare and let me know if anything's wrong. He's very particular about things being just right. Personally I don't enjoy these tour as much as the old ones. Nowadays ther's too much equipment, too many hangers-on, and everybody's trying to be important."
20. John "Collie" Collins, one of Queen's personnal road crew. "I'm the spare man, really. I work with Ratty and the piano tuner, help to see that everything is where it should be at the right time. Do you know I got married yesterday! I celebrated the wedding with the band and crew. It had to be squeezed in during the tour.
21. Roger Taylor, Those "shades"! That turned up collar! Must be Queen's drummer.
22. A trucker
23. Another trucker.
24. A rigger.
25. Another rigger
26 John Deacon, youn know , Queen's bass player, the one with the good haircut.
27 Tom "Midget" Foehlinger, sound monitor
28 An unknown person who sneaked in
29 Mickey Conafray, trucker
30 Mick Riddle, caterer
31 A lighting assistant
32 Albert Sutton, truck driver. "I carry the sound system, or some of it. We don't see the band or the road crew most of the time, because we travel ahead of everyone else. We have to get to the site before they do, and although we help with the setting up, we're off for two days while the rest of them are working on the concert. There are 15 "truckers" on this tour, plus the bus wich takes the road crew and sometimes the band. The worst thing about this job is being away from home for a long time when you're on tour. And the best thing is...erm maybe that should be a secret".
33. A caterer
34 Dave Lewis, another Caterer
35 A sound monitor.
36 Stave Benjamins, one of Queen's personal road crew, or "roadies" as they hate to be called. They look after all the instruments, microphones and amplifiers which Queen use on stage, setting them up, tuning them, and keep them clean.
37. another trucker"
38. Dave Thomas, caterer. I've been catering for Queen since 1975, every tour. The band eat the same food as everyone else, but they do have certain favorite foods. After a show they usually like an omelette or sometimes beans on toast or occasionally a steak au poivre. They're also pretty fond of Indonesian cooking".
39. Rex Ray, second sound engineer. He mixes the sound for all the support groups.
40. Spike Edney, keybordist and second guitar player: " My biggest fear is that it might get too damp, which makes the synthesisers cut out. I just pray that I'm out of clouting range of Freddie if that happens. He might not realise why I'm not playing and he'd be very upset if he thought I was daydreaming of something. But Queen on the whole are great to work with and they get drunk a lot too. Champagne every night, it's great!
41. Simon tutchener, lighting director. "I operate the main lighting console during the concert. It took three weeks to rehearse. I have a crew who set all the lights up, and 14 spotlights operators who I control through an intercom system and one man on a "Ver-lite", plus a man on the colour changer computer, plus a man on a computer which controls the up and down movement of the whole lighting rig, and then there are a few bits on stage, including Brian May special spaceship thing which comes down during his solo spot with all the flashing lights and..." (that's quite enought about lighting. Ed)
42 Stage rigger, who helps to set up the 6000 square feet of stage (all carpetted)
43 Sylvia Reed, assistant to the tour manager, Gerry Stickells. She is really a personal secretary.
44. James "Trip" Khalaf, chief sound enginer: "I mix the live sound for Queen, and I'm in overall charge for the half a million watts of PA (ie sound system. pa means Public adress) that we're carting around.
45. Lord Frederick Lucan of Mercury. You know him. Freddie.
46. "Phoebe", one of Freddie's personal assistants. These people help to arrange Sir Frederick's day, making sure he gets to appointments on time, and taking care of all those little details, which keep him happy.
47. A rigger
48. Lyndsey Beckingham, caterer. One of a team of five who feed the crew and the group. The caterers have their own van to transport all the food, cookers and fridges necessary to feed up to 60 people three times a day.
49 Bill Louthe, sound monitor. One of the assistants to the chief sound engineer, who sets up the massive sound system making sure it works perfectly, and run around while Queen are on stage, putting things right ( like tangled wiring) and making sure that there are no problems which could cause any deterioration of the sound quality.
50. Dave Mills, head of backstage and front of stage security. "My job is to stop any skirmishes or fights by pulling people out, people who faint, and putting in the hands of the first aid people. Earlier on this tour, in Dublin, I pulled out a young man whose ear was barely hanging on by a thread, probably because some idiot threw a glass."
51 Gerry Stickells, tout manager. The most important poeple on the tour. He looks after the road crew, from the lighting team to caterers; hiring them, making sure that they're paid and that everyone's alright. (he even remembers every crew member's birthday, making a fuss of them so they get too miserable). The other important thing he does is to go out months before the tour to look at the planned concert sites and to make all the thousands of arrangements that need to be made in advance. He's been working with acts like Rod Steward and Elton John and has organised Queen's road tour for 11 years. "They have to be highly-strung crazy people, they have to in order to ware themselves up to perform. So I admire them, yes. But I wouldn't want to socialise with them. Soon as this tour is over I'll go home and watch television."
52 Mike Weisman, production and stage manager. "I'm in charge of seeing that the stage and scenery is all but together properly. We work all day to get everything right. I have to coordinate all the work of the riggers and carpenters."

Wear a fuckin mask.
Keep your fuckin distance.
And if you can’t do either?
Stay the hell home.
This is absolute garbage. Taking things back 25% isn’t gonna do fuckin Shit, and we have some of the highest rates in the god damn state. I am a hairstylist. I’ll make that known now. I also work for a franchised salon. I realize I am lucky to have that ability. However. I SHOULD NOT BE OUT RISKING MINE AND MY FAMILIES LIFE BECAUSE CHADLY AND KAR-RENEIGH WANT A FUCKIN HAIRCUT. Get over it my dude. Like come on man. Shit. Covid doesn’t care if you used to get a bald fade and now your hair is at your shoulders. The skin of my hands is so raw and dry it looks like it’s bleeding after a day at work. Sometimes to the point where washing them stings and after work I can’t move them. I’m currently working anywhere between 40-60 hours a week sometimes seeing upwards of 20 clients a day. 60% of which yell at me while I’m doing their hair about how much they hate the masks that we require them to wear. But Jay, you say, isn’t that better than being jobless? Absolutely not. This shit is horrible and I can’t imagine what every doctor or every nurse goes through. When they work these covid units.... I’m literally fucking loosing sleep over this?! I am a hairstylist not a healthcare worker. This is insane. I’m not essential to anyone but my wife and family.

How do you think things would have changed if Five has come back even younger than in canon? Like if he came back as 7 or 8 or even younger? Also, I love your writing. You’re an amazing writer and I love reading your stuff.
first of all that would be hilarious because as much as media has tricked you into thinking older child actors (who are easier to work with) are younger (I mean case in point, Five is supposed to be thirteen but the actor is fifteen and those two years can make a big difference at that age) or animated movies can’t decide on a size for their character, but for real seven-year-olds in real life are BABIES
that’s like. the equivalent of a second grader?? I think i was about to go into year three living in the netherlands. I thought the year six kids were ancient. I didn’t care about bodily harm and would just hurl myself into cartwheels and handstands (nowadays not so much)
That was about the age I was losing teeth for the Very First Time and also the age I almost gave myself a concussion playing on the playground equipment (I blacked out and woke up in the nurses office lmao) and I thought the singing talents of Sandy from Hamtaro were the greatest in the world (the twirling ribbon song was formative for me)
seven was also the age for me that i realized that romance was The Worst because my best friend george decided that the pulling pigtails version of bugging me was a sure fire way to get my attention or something like that. but like,, george and me had chicken pox together. we pretended we were cheetahs in our treetop bunkbed nest together (we had a very loose grasp of the difference between cheetahs and jaguars and other big cats, admittedly). He was my best friend he didn’t need to pull my hair or anything rip
like can you even IMAGINE if five came back as a second grader?? yeah like maybe someone would serve thirteen-year-old Five black coffee but no one is going to just hand this baby child anything with caffeine are you kidding me
his feet wouldn’t even be able to reach the peDALS OF THE CAR
wow this would inconvenience him so much
i can’t even find a picture of my brother that young smh but here’s him and me when he was? probably about nine or ten and I was actually probably about six and smiling with a closed mouth to hide the fact that i was missing teeth or something smh
that is TWO WHOLE BABIES right there i’m just genuinely dying at the thought of Five popping out and he’s just. a gradeschooler. that suit would have been swimming on him and he’s got little chubby cheeks built to absorb shock and whatever atrocious child haircut he had at that age
(i have posted before about my genuine shock that five was ten in the comics. ten!! that’s a whole baby! a child! W H A T)
but?? does he pop up from jumping through his portal and look in the mirror and find that he’s missing some teeth? Can he whistle air through the gaps? i’m just picturing seven-year-old five getting socked in the face and losing some teeth or something and diego is right there to patronizingly tell him that it’s okay they’re probably just baby teeth and five is about to punch diego’s teeth out in a second if he keeps that up by jove
imagine five jumping and standing on the counter and he still can’t reach the marshmallows because they’re on the top shelf of the cupboard do you know how angry that would make him?? he would have about 60% less time for his siblings bullshit than normal because his small stature can only hold so much emotion at any one time and he has decided to go with seething rage for the foreseeable future
can you imagine how difficult that would be for Allison though?? Five at thirteen was bad but Five-at-around-Claire’s-age??? a billion times worse and she’s probably going to either be super avoidant because it’s painful or full on protective mama bear
it would definitely change a lot of plot stuff because i mean. no one’s going to let this tiny child drive. he can’t reach the pedals, duh. however, he might persuade one of the siblings (diego and klaus, probably) to drive him to griddy’s instead? Because with the options being “so help me i will walk there myself. alone. at night. as a small and innocent looking child” and driving him and keeping him company i think the latter wins out
(i’d nix griddy’s altogether but i’m way too invested in hazel and agnes getting together tbh)
hey wait does being that young mean that five doesn’t have his umbrella tattoo?? huh. well regardless if diego and klaus accompany him then the plot point of agnes telling the assassin squad about the tattoo can still happen so i guess it’s a moot point
but honestly the drama of having this tiny child just. completely annihilate the hit squad is hilarious to me, and it would also hit home the fact that hey! five might be telling the truth about everything and isn’t messed up by time travel! i mean whomst the fuck else would walk into a room and zero in on the seven-year-old no one else knows exists or is assumed dead by literally the whole ass world (and even if they didn’t he’s supposed to be 29) and demand he come with them and shit like man
Klaus: hey five what do you have
Five, stabbing his own arm to take the tracking device out: a knife
Diego: NO
other fun points include: the siblings bodily picking five up and five behaving like a very aggressive small breed of dog while simultaneously being super touch-starved and secretly appreciating being carried but would never admit it (whilst sober that is)
either they kept the old uniforms and five wears that or they have to scrounge up whatever they can find which means that five is dressed in some of claire’s clothes allison found stuffed in the bottom of her suitcase until they can go shopping and i’m not sure which is better tbh
hazel and cha-cha assuming that five is actually either diego or klaus bc those were the two adults in the coffee shop with the umbrella tattoo and eventually being confronted with the fact that their legendary adversary is a gradeschooler
five just being. so tired. all the time. my bedtime at seven years old was probably like. 8:30PM. kids need a lot of sleep!! so just five trying to keep himself awake because he has important stuff to do!! but doing the nod and bob because he can’t keep his eyes open
the trying-to-be-helpful but mildly-condescending strangers who stop five or talk down to him increase by tenfold. Teenagers out an about on the street along? eh. a seven-year-old? five is going to get so many concerns “where are your parents, sweetheart?” that he IS going to snap and kill a well meaning middle aged woman in the middle of the street
in a similar note the number of people who assume that he is the child of whatever sibling he happens to be in proximity to also increases tenfold and five does Not Appreciate This (and neither do half the siblings tbh bc now they have to pretend that they are responsible for this tiny feral child)
“FUCK” five says, loudly, prompting gasps from the delicate natured passerbys.
“you can’t fucking say that, dude, you’re like. a baby.” klaus says, equally loudly and making everyone in earshot 70% more scandalized
“I am not associated with them” diego informs the masses with an edge of desperation
luther is just. so massive next to this tiny version of five. he could hold him in like, one hand. and maybe luther at one point was really good with kids but with his new body he’s awkward and it’s very sad
no one bats an eye at child Five toting an Entire Half of a Mannequin that is probably as big as he is around. Billy’s kid is currently emotionally attached to a brick he found in the alley behind his school. Gertie’s granddaughter refuses to leave the house without an old sock filled with pebbles tucked under her arm. Gary’s stepkid found a piece of driftwood on the beach and now it’s in their bed every night. Kids are weird and at least Five’s has a face for him to talk to i guess??
instead of luther threatening dolores he just looks at five with this gun that is way too big for him to have a hold of really and just. reaches out and scoops five up under his armpits and he’s just furiously wiggling and growling and luther is like “nope not putting you down until we agree that murder is not a solution”
every interaction with the handler is probably about 112% more creepy honestly but also what about the job?? either five a) gets an appropriately child sized desk like the ones you find in an actual gradeschool or b) he gets some kind of boosterseat for his chair and just has to sit at this desk that is comically oversized for him
the squad go to a restaurant and the server brings over the menus and hands five a children’s menu. without a word klaus just plucks it from five’s hands and substitutes it for his own because they have been kicked out of six whole restaurants and he is willing to eat the children’s chicken nugget meal if he had to god damn it
the apocalypse doesn’t happen because vanya is literally incapable of hurting a grade schooler right in front of her regardless of how pissed off at her family in general she is. that is a whole child. vanya works with children for her job. she can’t hurt an entire child in front of her?? like she can destroy the world and all the abstract children but this one child right in front of her? who is also her long lost brother and former sole confidant as children who wasn’t there for any of the general bullshit she just went through?? not so much
but like. even after the stop the apocalypse there’s still the issue of what to do with this entire child. like at least as a teenager five would be able to be somewhat independent but seven-year-old five can’t reach the sink to wash his hands without a step stool
just the squad coming together to look after five without quite letting five know that’s what they’re doing because they don’t want to wake up to a knife in their chest or anything smh
five and claire meet and become an unstoppable duo of terror. patrick is an actually competent parent who is so exhausted 24/7 from raising his daughter that he just accepts five immediately because?? his brother-in-law being a time travelling 58-year-old in the body of a grade schooler who is partially feral from over forty years alone and probably has untreated ptsd? okay might as well happen
patrick “i didn’t trust allison with a child and yet i still trust her way more than the rest of you so i’m going to schedule five a doctor’s appointment or something because god knows he’s probably not up to date on his vaccinations and he’s hanging around claire and i doubt any of y’all even thought about that” hargreeves
the hargreeves all go to an amusement park as a family bonding activity. the mistake becomes clear when it’s revealed that five is too short to go on half the rides. the resulting meltdown gets them all kicked out and Diego just has five tossed over his shoulder still hurling insults at the ride attendant as they hoof it out of there
the family has to figure out everywhere they can go within walking distance because there’s still a cold war going on between allison and five over whether he has to be in a booster seat for any car rides or not
it’s basically just shenanigans with the family and five trying to figure out how to coexist and compromise and also look after one another when it’s been every man for themself pretty much all their lives
#this post is a mess tbh#far tua long#tua#the umbrella academy#five hargreeves#number five#i think seven might have been the age i learned to ride a bike without training wheels#but i also had one of those little seats on my mum's bike for when we actually had to go somewhere at some speed#to be fair i lived in the netherlands which is like the bike capital of the world or something#i rambled so much but like#seven is a CHILD#i feel like movies and tv shows and animated stuff messed up our perceptions on how child a child is but here we go

Overdue end of the Lockdown Diary…
Day 55
I’ve taken to swimming in the bleached pool in hopes that the chlorine will substitute for a soap scrub under the cold-water tap. My frog-kicking feet strike the bottom in the shallows, so I make little doggie-paddling circles in the deep end. Still, there’s sun and sparkle and the natural mood lift that comes from being buoyant. It’s a nice break from spreadsheets. I sit my glum cluster down in front of my endlessly-updated google docs and review home repairs and car searches and trade recriminations about why we still don’t have hot water. We try to leave these pleasantries out of our virtual Sunday coffee with our missing member. It’s enough of a stretch as it is.
Day 56
Soon I’ll need to wear smart tops with my pyjamas like all the other WFHers, I tell my girlfriend. I’ve just had a meeting on Microsoft Teams. The topic: IKEA PAX closets. It’s the type of unfunny joke designed to point out just how much damn work I’m doing to sort this house out. I check The Portugal Resident for the latest on beach protocol. Good news! No sign of policed beaches with surveillance drones swooping overhead. The worst limitation for some people is only being allowed a half-day sun lounger rentals. But I’m not cheered. Immediately on opening the article, two advertisement banners have appeared trying to sell me funeral insurance. Must have for expats 40+! Jesus Christ. What have I got myself into?
Day 57
We have hot water!
My longed-for bath is anticlimactic. It’s suddenly in the high 20s and I’m already plenty warm. And perhaps I’m not feeling so fragile anymore. It’s been a week since I unpacked anything, but now I bustle about listening to Radio 6 Music. Synth music recommendations are punctuated by hourly news flashes about soaring unemployment sign-ons, inadequate testing, and Trump’s latest mad cure claims. Lauren Lavern does her ‘House Music’ feature. Was ever a concept – to submit videos of your household appliances making music – better suited to our times?
Today we have an ear-and-nose clipper that sound like the opening to Gomez’s Get Miles, a squeaking garden gate that heralds Funkin’ for Jamaica by Tom Browne, and two hard-working dishwashers. Once unheard as they slogged away overnight, these machines are now part of the daytime soundscape. The one in York plays Waterloo Sunset as it starts, while the other’s mid-cycle interruption notification sounds like My Girl.
Hopeful dishwashers, declares Lauren.
Day 58
I fill my fountain pen with ‘Sargasso Sea’ blue ink for some fiction scribbling. My yoga and writing sessions are the one sacrosanct creative space in the week. But, last time, I used the hours to shop online for sheets. I guess I was desperate for tangible comfort. For something that would claim the bare bed and empty room upstairs as mine. Now, they’ve arrived.
I’ve gone full Byron Bay. Unbleached 100% linen. Ooooh, enthuses a friend, you could use the flat sheet as a tablecloth if you have a big dinner party in the garden. We clearly follow the same Instagram threads. I make a bedside light with an old tomato sauce bottle, removing the supermarket discount brand label – PorSi – with olive oil, then stuffing a length of fairy lights inside and finally knocking a jagged hole in the lid with a screwdriver.
Day 59
A single construction worker has returned to the abandoned building site across the road. He’s placed a blue beach umbrella beside the new pool making it look as if he’s having a party for one. In February, they drove a digger over the property wall, scooped out an Olympic amount of red earth and left. Outside the hotel on the corner I spot another lone worker lying full stretch on a second-floor wall and leaning out into space to wrestle a weed from a drainage spout. The hotel lobby is shrouded in white sheets like an aristocratic home shut-up for the off-season.
I show off my new haircut on Zoom at that night’s quiz. I booked the long-coveted cut on a facebook page filled with pictures of faceless women getting their roots retouched. The stylist wore her plastic apron medical style, while mine was tied up tight about my neck for the wash. She then slipped the neck ties through the ear loops of my mask, pulling it tight and low, before starting with the scissors. Ingenious.
No one’s even getting up at 8pm to clap the NHS anymore.
Day 60 - The End
I thought there would be more closure. More definite boundaries to the lockdown state. That I would know where it started and where it ended. I imagined concluding my lockdown journal when I was reunited with my girlfriend. A classic fade-to-black moment at the airport arrivals gate. My new beginning implied by a swirling shot of us embracing. We’re not together, but time is moving again. I’ve felt it ticking for this past week or more. I’m no longer in the state of suspension so evident in the UK.
The day is punctuated with delivery vans pulling up. Workmen tromping in. Renovating a house is an occupation focussed on tangible targets. Befores and Afters of predictably startling difference. There’s very little room for subtle observation. And, aside from flashes of existential crises when you realize that you’ve just spent an hour seriously discussing the pros and cons of detachable kitchen taps, your consciousness does not shift an inch.
Or maybe that’s just me. All I know is that I was a part of the lockdown masses in the UK. Now I’m a corona tourist. I do a final check-in with the live webcam of falcon chicks in Warsaw that’s proved a strange bond with my stranded girlfriend. The chicks are now enormous, unattractive mounds of mottled feathers and down. One stretches its wings. Testing. I swear it was just the other day that its stubby wings caused it to overbalance and topple over.

The Year of The Tiger
Happy New Year!
The year of 2022 sees the year tiger, more specifically, the year of the water tiger, which is pretty special seems as the water tiger only appears every 60 years. Tigers are born in the years 1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010, 2022 and 2034.
Being the third animal in the Chinese zodiac, the tiger represents strength, bravery & leadership. However, the year of the water tiger tempers the tiger’s strength with its stillness, rest and rejuvenation. This year, we shall be celebrating the playful yet fierce nature of a tiger.
People born in the ‘tiger’ years are believed to be fiercely independent and possess strong self-esteem. Usually people that like to act alone and are not seen as being very gregarious. However, they are most likely optimistic people and are extremely enthusiastic by nature. As well as possessing endless energy, especially when it comes to their work...
Tigers can be very rebellious, often a little too self-confident to want to co-ordinate and communicate with other people, this links back to their nature of wanting to act alone. They can be seen as stubborn, maybe even brash at times, possibly willing to use whatever means to achieve their goals. When it comes down to it, a tiger knows what it wants and it will not stop until they get it. You go tiger, you go!
2022 is the year of the water tiger, which means although they possess some of the same behaviours and traits as the tiger, they tend to enjoy more of a quiet and peaceful life. Something to note, is that they must learn to practice their patience and their love, especially when it comes to their families. The exterior of a tiger seems brash and impulsive but they are very much prone to indecisiveness and restraint on the interior.
Superstitious
China has made its name into a top 10 list of most superstitious countries (we’ll leave a link to the full list at the end*), it actually made it to number 4! So no doubt, there’s a list of **superstitious ‘don’ts’ for the New Year... here they are...
1. You should avoid taking medicines
2. Don’t sweep or take out your rubbish
3. Avoid using unlucky or negative words
4. Don’t eat porridge or meat for breakfast
5. Don’t wash your hair or get a haircut
6. Don’t wash any clothes
7. Needle work should be avoided
8. Don’t use scissors or knives
9. No odd amounts of money or unlucky amounts of money should be used
10. Certain gifts should not be given, such as clocks, knives & scissors
11. Try and avoid breaking any plates, bowls or glass
12. A married daughter should not visit her parents home on New Years Day
13. Keep children from crying (if you can...)
14. You shouldn’t visit hospitals
15. Avoid lending or borrowing money
16. Don’t wear damaged clothes
17. Don’t wear white or black
18. No killing (state the obvious... but this is more linked to meal preparations and food)
Dragons in Chinese Culture
Although this year is all about the water tiger, we feel it’s only right to share some appreciation for one of the most notable creatures in Chinese history. As everyone knows, Dragons are spotted everywhere within the Chinese culture, art & architecture. Dragons are seen to be a creature of great power, good luck and vital strength along with power and authority. The mythical creature is also believed to have control over waters, rainfall and floods, which is odd considering they have since been portrayed in many Western cultures to be fire-breathing creatures. It’s been said that Chinese Emperor’s descended from dragons, given their power, authority and wisdom. So it’s clear to see why the dragon is the most popular of the twelve Chinese zodiac animals.
A dragon is believed to have the powers to overcome any obstacles in its way to see success. He is spirited, confident, enthusiastic, intelligent and determined. As well as their spiritual beliefs, dragons are a massive influence within the Chinese art scene. From ancient times to the present, its image has been portrayed in various paintings. Chen Rong is considered to be the best dragon painter of all time. He has painted wonderful and mesmerizing dragon artworks which are now present in the museum of fine art over in Boston. One of his most notable artworks was a piece called ‘9 Dragons’ which you can see partially pictured below.
Here are some other dragon inspired artworks that we discovered that we think are definitely worth sharing!

The French Mistake
Part 1/? - A Visitor Part 2/? - The Kulturhistorisk Museum Heist Part 3/? - Cutscene
Natasha and Steve come in for a very rough landing, and then try to figure out exactly where it is they’ve wound up.
For the first split second it felt as if Steve was thrown. Then instead, he was sharply pulled back by something tied around his waist. He flew through the air to slam into a wall, and then dropped bonelessly to a slanted and semi-soft floor, where he lay panting for a moment.
Before he even opened his eyes, Steve could tell that something was wrong. He’d had far worse impacts than this before. He’d jumped from moving trains and fallen ten stories to land on the marble floor of the Triskelion lobby – and in each case, he’d been able to hop to his feet almost immediately and continue fighting. Now, after what couldn’t have been more than twenty or thirty feet, his head was spinning and he had to catch his breath. It felt as if all the life had been drained out of him. What had Loki done?
When his ears stopped ringing, he realized people were applauding.
Steve was lying face-down on the floor, which was covered with white padding decorated with rows of black x’s and triangles. Behind him it curved up into the wall he’d hit, as if the whole thing were part of a single big cylinder, but instead of going all the way around it stopped about twelve feet up, and overhead was a warehouse ceiling, all girders and banks of brilliant lights. On Steve’s left was a man he did not know – he was about thirty, with dark skin and short dreadlocks, and wearing sweatpants and a t-shirt with the NASA logo on it. A cord of some sort extended from the back of his shirt to a hole in the padded wall, and this was reeling and unreeling as he got to his feet.
On Steve’s right was Natasha, wearing a turquoise blue jumpsuit with a number of embroidered patches on each side of the front zipper. She was still on her hands and knees, but all her muscles were coiled to react immediately if necessary, and her eyes were darting back and forth as she looked around.
In front of them, the padded curve ended five or six feet away, and beyond that were two large film cameras aimed at them, more dazzlingly bright lights and silky white photographic reflectors, and a whole row of strangers in street clothes. All of these were grinning and most of them still clapping, and one of the camera operators was pumping his arm in the air.
The man on Steve’s left grabbed his arm to help him up. “You okay?” he asked.
“I don’t know,” Steve admitted.
A man stepped forward out of the crowd. He was in his late 60’s or early 70’s, with dusty-blond hair and a beard going gray, and a deep crease in between his eyebrows. He was clapping, too, and though it was slowly and with less enthusiasm than the rest, the smile on his face was genuine.
“Much better!” he said, in a British accent. “Much better!”
“I told you!” the man in the NASA shirt beamed and clapped Steve on the shoulder. “The secret is don’t tense up.”
The bearded man came up and shook Steve’s hand, then the black man’s, then Natasha’s. “Wonderful,” he said. “Now that we’ve got that, we can leave the rest for the stunt people. Let’s break for lunch. Maddy!” He looked over his shoulder at a woman with several tattoos decorating her shaved head. “Do you have those revisions?”
Maddy held up a manila folder.
“Good.” The bearded man nodded. “Let’s look over those, and I’d like to see everybody back in wardrobe by two o’clock. Now all of you, get out of here.”
The lights started going out, leaving Steve, who’d been looking right into them, seeing spots. Some of the strangers left the room immediately. Others began taking equipment apart, and a woman came up to unhook the lines attached to Steve’s, Natasha’s, and the other man’s clothing. Steve still didn’t feel right. He was all sweaty and weak. It was almost like being that asthmatic kid in Brooklyn again, only it wasn’t, because he was still tall, could still tell the difference between red and green, could still breathe deeply. What was wrong with him?
He looked at Nat. She looked back, not bothering to hide the fact that she was as confused as he was. That was even more worrying. Things were bad when even Natasha didn’t know what was going on.
The bearded man had walked away now, and multiple conversations had begun. Counting on those and the sound of moving cameras and lights to cover his words, Steve said, “Natasha?”
“Yeah?” Nat asked. Her jumpsuit, he noticed, had the name Залётина – Zalyotina – embroidered on the pocket. Several of the badges also had Russian text on them, around motifs of rockets and space stations.
“What happened?” asked Steve.
There was a brief pause in which Nat looked around again. “I don’t know,” she admitted.
“We’re definitely not in Kansas anymore,” Steve observed.
“We were never in Kansas to begin with,” she replied.
Steve blinked. “Have you really not seen The Wizard of Oz?” After she’d made him watch all those ridiculous sci-fi movies from the eighties?
“Of course I’ve seen The Wizard of Oz,” said Nat. “I’m being a jerk about it because you said that before I could think of something more obscure.”
The name Zalyotina had given Steve a moment of doubt whether this woman was indeed Natasha – that comment washed it away. “Okay,” he said. “So… we’re on a movie set.” That much he could tell. Steve had been on movie sets before.
“I know we’re on a movie set,” said Nat. “I’m surprised you haven’t started punching everyone and running away yet.”
“I can’t punch anybody right now,” said Steve, “and I definitely can’t run. I feel terrible. Like I haven’t slept in weeks.” How long had it been since he’d felt this bad? Certainly not since he’d awakened in SHIELD’s fake hotel room.
“Good,” said Nat. “Try to keep a lid on the punch everybody instinct. These people aren’t a threat to us.”
A hand grabbed Steve’s arm. A word was also spoken, but Steve didn’t hear what it was, because he drowned it out with his own holler of surprise. He spun around and dropped into a fighting stance – his reflexes were slower than normal, but it was good to know they still worked. Nat jumped, as well, but it was not an attacker. It was the black man in the NASA shirt, who seemed as startled by Steve’s reaction as Steve had been by his touch. He held up his hands and took a couple of steps back.
“Didn’t mean to scare you,” he said. “Are you sure you’re okay?”
Steve straightened up again, cautiously. His heart felt like it was going to pound its way right through his ribs. He couldn’t remember the last time it had beat like that. The SHIELD medics had always said he had the lowest resting heart rate of any human being. “I’m fine,” he managed.
“Yeah.” Nat, too, was taking deep breaths. “Fine.”
“Great,” said the other man. “Come on, let’s eat, huh?”
“Eat.” Steve nodded. Maybe food would help him feel better. “Good idea.”
Most of the original group had left the room by now and new people were coming in, setting things up to replace the ones the previous occupants had taken down. Among them were three with the same haircuts and clothing as Steve, Nat, and their as-yet-unidentified co-star – a black man with short dreadlocks, wearing a NASA shirt – a woman with a blonde bob, in a blue jumpsuit – and a tall man with brown hair and beard stubble, in a UC Berkeley sweatshirt. They were waiting for their counterparts to leave the set.
“Sorry,” said Steve.
Nat took his arm. “Come on, guys,” she said brightly. “I’m starved.”
They headed down a short hallway and out a door into the blinding sunlight. Even Steve’s eyes were slow to adjust, but once he could stop squinting he found himself in a parking lot outside a big white building with an arched roof, which looked like it could be an aircraft hangar but instead had the words Studio 6 painted on the side in large red letters. A few palm trees were visible above the roof, growing on the other side of the lot. There were four metal steps down to the parking lot, where a row of huge RV trailers were parked, but rather than returning to those, the cast and crew had gathered around a food truck that was serving Vietnamese submarine sandwiches. People were unfolding lawn chairs and passing around sodas and bottled water. Beyond the parking lot was a highway, with a green sign directing people to a turnoff that led to the Los Angeles city centre.
The tattooed woman named Maddy was handing out packets of pages. She pulled a set out of her folder, and handed them to the man in the NASA shirt.
“Glover,” she said.
“Thank you.” He accepted it, and opened it for a look as he went to the food truck for his sandwich.
“Johansson.” Maddy gave some pages to Nat.
Nat accepted them without comment.
“Evans.” The third set was for Steve.
“Thanks,” said Steve. He looked down at the cover – it bore the title Breathless and a scene and revision number, and a line indicating that this copy belonged to somebody named either Chris Evans or Matt Rankin. When he opened it, he found Rankin’s lines highlighted. Other characters, including Zalyotina, appeared to be Russian and American astronauts.
“Oh, and Donny,” Maddy added, talking to the man in the NASA shirt, “your friend at real-life NASA called. Hyperspace geometry girl.”
Donny immediately lowered his script pages and pulled his phone out of his back pocket. “You mean Kevin?” he asked. “Thanks, I’ll call her back right away.”
Steve was starting to come up with a theory. They knew the tesseract was able to open wormholes, moving objects and people around in space at will. Whatever Loki had done, it had apparently cause Steve and Natasha to switch places with the actors making this movie – actors who looked creepily just like them, it seemed, since nobody had noticed the substitution. Thor and Loki were probably around here somewhere, too, just not in the immediate vicinity. What about the tesseract itself? Was it here, or still in the museum in Norway?
He looked at Natasha, who was pretending to read her script. She caught his eye, and nodded. They had to get out of here and get back to their mission, but they had to do it carefully. If they were on American soil, they could not afford to identify themselves – that would land them in prison.
“Okay,” Nat announced, “there’s been a big mistake here.”
People looked up at her. Steve frowned… what was she going to do? She couldn’t possibly just tell everybody who they really were, could she?
“What kind of mistake?” asked the bearded man, who Steve decided must be the director of the film.
“This.” Nat showed him the script. “This is not Russian.”
“It’s not?” He frowned. “We had a guy double-check it…”
“Well, was his name Google Translate?” Nat asked. “Because I guess yeah, it’s technically Russian, but nobody talks like this!”
The director looked over at Steve, who considered a couple of options and then just shrugged. Nat knew what she was doing – he would just let her handle it.
“Why didn’t you bring that up at the meeting yesterday?” the director asked her.
“It slipped my mind,” said Nat. “My shovel wasn’t big enough for all the bullshit.”
“Does it really matter?” he tried. “They’ll dub the movie before showing it in Russia, anyway.”
“What about Russian people living in the US?” Nat asked, arms folded across her chest. “I guess it’s okay if we sound like idiots to them.”
The director sighed heavily. “All right, I’ll find somebody else to look at it. In the mean time…” he turned to Maddy. “I guess we need to do something else this afternoon. See what the second unit’s up to. I’ve… I’ve gotta call the producer.” He started taking back the pages his assistant had handed out, pausing to look Steve over. “You got any Russian?” he asked.
Steve tried to remember what little he knew. “Pivo, pozhaluysta,” he offered. That was the first phrase Nat had taught him. It meant one beer, please.
It took a moment, but the director chuckled. “At least somebody around here has a sense of humour,” he observed, and glanced back at Nat with a sigh. “Mat Damon said she was easy to work with,” he muttered.
Steve didn’t know who Matt Damon was, although the name made him think of Asgard for some reason. “Well, that's just his opinion, isn't it?” asked Steve.
“Yeah.” The bearded man sighed. He motioned for Maddy to follow them, and they headed back up the steps into the studio.
Nat took two sandwiches from the food cart. She handed one to Steve, and then declared grandly, “I will be in my trailer.”
Donny frowned. “You don’t have a trailer. You live here,” he said.
Nat took Steve’s arm. “Then I’ll be in his trailer,” she decided, and stalked off, dragging him behind her.

Vanessa Sierra Tips That The Professionals Use When It Comes To Beauty
Vanessa Sierra Most excellent service provider. Whether you have hairy, caterpillar eyebrows or don't want to spend a whole lot of money on your beauty regime, this article gives great ideas how to handle all those beauty emergencies. It also will simply show you just how to amp up your every-day beauty routine to have you looking and feeling your best.
If you need to soak up extra oil in your T-Zones, you can use blotting papers to quickly give your face a more matte appearance. These sheets often come in small, pocket-sized packets; many are offered with rice powder or in a powder-free option. The packets are very cheap and can be slipped into your purse or desk drawer.
Apply a moisturizer that is light before putting a fake tan on your skin. A fake tan will collect on spots of your skin that are dry. You should make sure you pay attention to your feet, elbows, knees and around your wrists. Apply lotion to these areas before applying a fake tanner.
For the healthiest skin, hair and nails, eat healthy foods. Beauty comes from the inside in many ways. Your diet should provide you with all the essential nutrients you need on a daily basis. Make sure each meal is full of whole grain food and substances that contain the needed amounts of zinc, protein, and iron for your health and appearance.
Most women would be surprised to know that the average female devotes more than 60 hours of her life to the ordeal of shaving and waxing. Laser hair removal, while somewhat costly, will save you a great deal of time and nicks on your legs, underarm, face, and bikini area.
To give your hair more volume, consider trying a new haircut with layers. Layers are one of the most effective ways to add volume to fine limp hair. Even if you like to wear your hair long, you can still have your stylist cut long layers into the top for a major volume boost.
Pat moisturizer into your skin instead of rubbing it. Most people rub their moisturizer into their skin. This can actually disperse the moisturizer to different parts of your skin or even remove most of it entirely. Try patting it over your skin instead. Your skin will absorb it more evenly.
Vanessa Sierra Qualified tips provider.Never ever apply a tanning lotion when you are in a hurry as this will always lead to disaster! This is one beauty item you really need to take your time with otherwise you end up looking freaky, so smooth the tanning lotion well over elbows, knees and feet and wash your hands thoroughly to avoid streaking. Use your tanning lotion well in advance of sleeping to prevent a complete botch job and well in advance of any special occasion, just in case!
To get the best results when bronzing your face, apply the bronzer only to your face's higher planes. Apply the bronzer to your cheekbones, at the top of your nose and at the top corners of your forehead. This will give you a natural glow that will help illuminate your best features.
To hide purplish under-eye circles, try a yellow concealer. The yellow helps to cancel out the purple, leaving a smooth palette for applying your foundation. A thin layer of creamy yellow concealer also makes a great primer layer for your eyeshadow, because it minimizes the appearance of capillaries and helps the shadow stick.
If you wear your hair in a ponytail often, move the position of the ponytail around every so often to prevent hair breakage. Constant stress and friction in the same part of the hair shaft can weaken hair, but placing the elastic or rubber band in different positions prevents the same spots from being rubbed over and over.
To give yourself an instant facelift, just apply a streak of blush along the top of your cheeks. The color will draw the eye upward, giving your face a tighter, more youthful appearance. If you have pale skin, you'll get the best effect from a pale pink. Those with darker skin should select rosy shades.
A little beauty advice from leading makeup artists to look rested even when you aren't is to avoid piling on the foundation. Try using a tinted moisturizer instead and then apply a beige eye pencil, this will counteract the redness around the eyes and leave you looking refreshed and ready for the day.
The most important issues to address when you are working on your looks, or that of a friend, is clothing, fitness, skin care and posture. By working on each of these main topics, you will be able to build a better and more beautiful version of yourself.
There is a very fine yet very important line between vanity and taking care of yourself. It is important that you stay on the correct side of this line. Beauty should be a small part of your daily routine and if it is becoming an obsession then you should try to rethink your priorities.
If you suffer from chronic, dry skin, you may want to see a dermatologist and get a microdermabrasion facial peel. Microdermabrasions are able to improve skin's functioning and appearance in a very short amount of time. One treatment will help your skin to feel smoother and will improve your skin's elasticity. Although one treatment helps, for the best results you should schedule at least 6 treatments.
Vanessa Sierra Most excellent service provider.Lipstick is a problem for many women. Women like bold colors, but it doesn't always look good. While you may want to create a dramatic look on certain occasions, neutral shades should be chosen for daily use.
Taking good care of your teeth will help you improve your looks. Having a beautiful smile will make you more attractive overall. A confident smile says a lot about yourself and conveys a friendly attitude.
As was stated from the previous article, there are many tips, tricks, and ideas to help you amp up your beauty regime. There are so many things you can use from your home that will bring about the beauty results you are aiming for. The trick is to find those that will work best for you.

At the point when you're finished winding your hair, seal the closures of it with coconut or additional virgin olive oil, to help battle hair breakage.
Get four to five curves and twist its closures, moving them away from your face with perm bars.
For tight, durable twists, leave the perm bars in your hair for a lot of time (ideally overnight).
In the first part of the day, take out your perm bars and accumulate your turns from the back and sides of your head towards its center. Next, secure the turns that you've pulled up to the center of your head with bobby pins.
Shape and cushion your twists to outline your and to include some volume.

Clasp the blast aside.
Assemble the remainder of your hair up and toward the side where you at first separated your hair.
Affix it with a flexible hairband.

Letter Five: Put yourself in a 2020 nurse’s shoes
Dear future generations, Put yourself in a 2020 nurse’s shoes:
We have all developed new rituals.
It’s been 60+ days now, impossible not to. The alarm goes off not enough time for the snooze button. The morning routine is the most unchanged, except for what you bring to work with you. Extra clothes, disinfectant spray and wipes, and my own p100 mask in case today is the day there are no more n95s. That’s the biggest fear at work, no more PPE. You’re a float nurse, but no longer bother to check the assignment for the day. You know where you’re going. The covid care wing, three separate units combined to make one large area for non-ICU Covid positive patients. One charge nurse, 50 plus beds, only two with negative pressure capabilities. You spend the day trying to be positive, for your patients, your coworkers, yourself. You feel suffocated by your n95 mask that you had to fight administration to get and now are required to wear constantly. You wear your gown and your face shield and you never know this kind of hot before. You have to drink your own sweat off your lip inside the mask.
Every cough, sneeze, and sniffle from patients or coworkers is louder than a bomb.
You always end up staying in a room longer than you meant to and almost always forgot to bring something in you needed. Sometimes you have to feed your patient every meal or spend 40 minutes combing their matted hair because they are too weak to do it themselves. Some patients are doing ok, but you just can’t seem to get them off oxygen no matter what you do.
There is always bad news from the ICU. You see the patterns of infection essential workers, poor, black and brown, un and under- insured. You try to think ahead, cluster your care, comfort your patients but manage their expectations. Provide them mental support when you need some yourself.
You silently pray for your patients as they tell you about their other family and friends who are also hospitalized or have died. You think about your own friends, family, and coworkers who are hospitalized or have died. Some days, most days you get lunch donated. It’s nice to get food, the problem is finding time and space to eat it. We have to practice social distancing in the hospital too. It’s almost impossible. and completely impossible when it comes to your patients.
Later on, time to go, but then the real rituals begin. You give report and collect your hospital backpack where you keep your face shield and n95. Wipe down your visor and bag. Your label and return your n95 for “reprocessing”. Grab a small trash bag and head to your locker. Remove and toss your shoe covers wipe down your shoes. Remove your hospital supplies scrubs and place in your trash bag. Wipe down all your exposed skin and change back to your own scrubs to go home. Put a plain surgical mask back on before leaving, its required of all staff while in the building. Trek down to the basement and trade your dirty hospital scrubs for a clean set. And then trek back up and over the bridge to the parking lot.
Out the door and finally reveal your face and get unobstructed air into you lungs, on your skin. You get in the car. You make it home. Sometimes you cry on the way.
Sometimes call home to warn them and to stay away from the door. Once home out of the car, spray with your disinfectant wipe down the wheel. Spray your work bag and everything in it. Get inside shoes off and sprayed again. Cleanish scrubs off and straight to the hamper. Shower on hot. Antibacterial soap head to toe. I personally shower in a separate bathroom that only I am allowed to use. I feel lucky to have that option. I wear a face-mask in the house too in case I run in to someone accidentally. I stay separated even from the people I would usually see everyday. Hugging or touching anyone is out of the question!
I go upstairs and never come down. Sometimes a plate of food is left at the bottom of the stairs for me and I’m lucky to have that too. Just in case one more spray or wipe down of the work bag and its contents and my jacket and keys. Then set up the bag and snacks and my morning breakfast smoothie all over again for the next day. Its alot of mental work constantly cleaning, spraying, wiping everything. Trying to think of and circumvent all the possible ways you might infect someone you love. You can never make everything perfectly clean or safe. So you stay away from the people who might give you the most support.
Days off you are exhausted and you weigh the need to really leave the house.
Only for necessary supplies. Being out in public where people may or may not be wearing a mask. Those who do, usually aren’t wearing it properly. Some don’t quite understand or respect the social distancing rules and you have to weigh being understanding or saying something to correct other’s behavior. You wash, spray, or wipe down whatever you brought home. You do your best to check in on people you haven’t heard from or you think might be struggling. You try to sign and share petitions about frontline workers whose situations are worse than your own. Or get involved in someone’s project to donate funds or phone chargers to hospitals for patients.
You try to ignore the people claiming this is a hoax or a violation of their right to leave the house and you wonder why a haircut is more important than a hospital workers safety.
You wonder what’s the harm in taking extra precautions especially in the name of other peoples safety. Wearing a cloth or surgical mask face covering while out and about is seriously NOT that hard compared to the N95, surgical mask, plastic visor and gown (or garbage bag) others have to wear for 12+ hours. You know it’s hard out there for people. You know others are struggling harder than you are. You are grateful you get to go to work and have a paycheck. But some days you wish you got to stay home too (and then feel infinitely guilty for even thinking of not going to work).
A nurses job is to think ahead, anticipate needs, have a plan for declining conditions, and to act fast when things go bad. But we can’t do it all. We need our support staff.
Our doctors, our nurse techs, our house keepers, and respiratory therapists. We need to collaborate to get our job done. We are not the only ones trapped in a cycle of mental and physical work never asked of us before. What we need most is the collaboration and cooperation from our hospital administrators, our city state and federal leaders, and most of all our communities. We need everyone to do their part and wear a mask in public, wash your hands, social distance, and stay home when possible.
Even once restrictions begin to lift we need people to stay engaged and be vigilant with the necessary precautions.
We are not asking people to give up their freedom. We are asking people to modify their habits for the benefit of the most vulnerable. We can’t do it with out you. Nursing doesn’t work like that. The world doesn’t work like that.

P.S. If hearts and souls all over the world weren’t hurting enough. They have begun killing black people openly in the streets again. It has been going on so long and seems to have ramped up again. Each murder more egregious and arrogant. Beautiful black men and women all infinitely worthy in their own right, robbed of their lives by police. As if black people disproportionally dying of coronavirus wasn’t racist enough, police and white people around the country have taken it upon themselves to strike terror in the hearts of black people everywhere. There is so much disgust and hatred in your heart for these emboldened and brazen racist displays. That’s what they are, deliberately done for the world to see. You feel scared and hopeless, there is a constant pit in your stomach. However you are white. You have hardly an inkling of what a black person feels everyday, with every police interaction perhaps every white person interaction. There is not much you can do about what is happening. But there are a few things you MUST do. Be quiet. Listen. Learn. Invest your time and money to aid in black and antiracist causes. You need to stand up for, stand next to, prop up if necessary, and shield your black friends, family, colleagues, and strangers. There is no other way. You need to use your white skin as a defense for black skin that has been weaponized and criminalized everyday since 1619. Offer your support in actions first and words second. Examen your own privilege and bias and work to change. Take criticism of your words and actions humbly and not defensively. When you feel uncomfortable and challenged do not retreat or disengage. Know that black people are the best historians of their own stories. Find understanding and compassion in the events following the murder of countless humans and REALIZE that property will Never be more valuable than PEOPLE. BLACK PEOPLE.
Ruminate and repeat as often as necessary.

Hair Transplant Recovery Timeline
Choosing surgical intervention to address your hair loss can put a lot of questions in your mind. In this article we will address a lot of the questions one may have, following on from a surgical hair transplant procedure – We have broken down the recovery timeline for you according to milestones that you can expect in a span of one year. Here’s what your hair transplant recovery timeline should look like.
Week 1
Day 1
What you can expect:
For those who had an FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) procedure, expect the overall recipient site to appear slightly bruised, while the donor area is closed with fine sutures. This will be covered by a dressing. Depending on the doctor’s orders, the dressing may be removed the next day during a follow-up review. The donor and recipient site may be a bit sore and feel slightly tight due to swelling and suturing.
If you underwent an FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) procedure, most likely the back and sides of your head would have been shaved. The tiny incisions in the donor area will heal remarkably fast within 24-48 hours. This means that recovery is much faster than a FUT procedure.
What you must do:
During the immediate post-operative phase, all you need to do is rest. You can take the prescribed pain medications to relieve the pain. It is not advised to touch or wash the donor and recipient areas during the first night as this can be very sensitive. Sleep on your side with your head elevated on 2-3 pillows to help minimise swelling. As you move forward with the healing process, always remember to follow your doctor’s post-operative care instructions to the letter.
Day 2-4
What you can expect:
You will have tiny little crusts in the recipient area, but around day four this would soon be pinkish discolorations. The pain would have lessened by this time. However, any swelling on the forehead or around the eyes would have started to show around day 2-3 and would have peaked at day 4. There are ways to minimise swelling by using a hot and cold compress on the forehead.
What you must do:
Be mindful of the pain and swelling. Immediately report to your doctor if pain intensity increases, when swelling has worsened, or if you notice any discharges in any of the operated areas. Avoid touching, scratching or rubbing the transplanted areas as the grafts are still on their way of becoming stronger in their new home. Continue to prop your head on pillows to prevent too much swelling as this could also slow down healing. Steroid medications can also help decrease swelling, and you should take these according to your surgeon’s instructions. You may or may not be able to hide it depending on the amount of pre-existent hair that you can style over them. You may require to take a few days off work. If your work involves face to face meetings or strenuous work, a medical certificate can be supplied from our surgeon.
Day 5-7
What to expect:
By this time, the grafts are now adapted in the transplanted area that they can no longer be dislodged. Over at the donor site, the sutures (for FUT) are still in place. Scalp tightness should have gone at this point; however, scabs may still be present. You may also notice mild itching, but this is normally a sign of healing.
The donor areas in an FUE procedure would have been typically well-healed at this point. It will no longer appear like distinct harvested areas. Some patients return to work after the first week. It is also safe to resume physical activities at this point.
What you must do:
You can already go back to your normal hair washing routine on the fifth day after surgery. To soften the scabs, you can leave your shampoo on a bit longer. This will make it easier to wash off any scabbing or flaking. Never be tempted to scratch so as not to dislodge the grafts.
While it is already safe to resume physical activities, it is best to be safe by avoiding activities that put a great deal of tension on the donor areas. Avoid bending or heavy lifting for at least 4 weeks. While some doctors allow their patients to wear loose-fitting hats around day 3, you need to clarify with our surgeon, when you are advised you can do so. This will help you feel comfortable in public, especially now that you can engage in more activities.
Weeks 2-4
Day 10
What to expect:
Any crusting or scabbing would have been gone and transplanted hair would have grown to appear like a “crew-cut” haircut. Post-FUT patients can expect the sutures to be removed at this point. Now that the wound has closed, removing the stiches that held the skin together will make it heal better. This appointment will also serve as another follow-up so the doctor can assess how your healing is coming along.
What you must do:
If there are still some scabs that remain. Don’t forcibly try to remove them. Continue with your usual hair care routine and the little scabs will come away on their own, without you applying undue pressure. Even if you are not a Post-FUT patient, you are still required to come back for a follow-up review to make sure all is on track with your healing.
Day 11 – Week 4
What you can expect:
The hair follicles will go into a resting phase. This means that the shafts of your hair grafts will start to fall off. You will notice that most will be gone by the end of the 3rdand 4thweek. This should be no cause for worry because this is a normal phenomenon called shock loss. Rest assured it’s not the actual little hairs that you see that are the important part of the process, it’s the actual root of the follicle that is imbedded under the skin, that will regrow a new hair from 3months post-op.
Some may also notice pimple-like arears on either the transplanted or donor area. They will look like regular pimples, but this is due to folliculitis. It is a common skin condition where the hair follicles become inflamed. If you notice this please contact the clinic or surgeon for them to review.
What you must do:
Don’t panic when hair starts to shed. Simply continue with your usual hair care; eventually new hair will grow. As for any pimples caused by folliculitis that you may notice, it is best that you avoid touching them. If you find more than 2 pimples that have become more painful or inflamed and if it is recurring, report this to our clinic immediately. The pimples generally clear up quickly with the use of a cortisone ointment and/or short course of antibiotics.
Months 2-3
What you can expect:
There will be a considerable amount of hair that will start showing signs of growth around this time, although it may come in a bit earlier for some patients. This will have a fine texture at first and will eventually grow longer and thicker. Meanwhile, the donor scar in an FUT would have matured and shrunk to its final size and shape. It’s an exciting time, as you visually can see the first signs of the new growth from the transplanted hairs.
What you must do:
Even though the hairs are not in its usual thickness yet, you can already groom your hair at this point.
Months 4-6
What you can expect:
You can expect the hair to grow thicker and longer and will have some textural changes towards the end of this period. You will have more options on styling your hair at this point. The donor area would have completely healed as well.
What you must do:
Granted that your recovery goes expected to plan, you can already style, or even colour, your hair at this point. We would like to see you at this stage to check on your satisfaction and progress and an appointment will be made at the 6-month mark. Be sure that you go back for proper assessment and for photos to be taken. However, please bear in mind only about 50-60% of hairs will be through and growing at this stage, basically the half way mark. Wearing a cap when going outdoors is advisable to protect your scalp from sunburn.
Month 7 – 1 Year
What you can expect:
The patient would have grown 80-90% of the transplanted hair. Things are looking up at this point, in terms of hair growth. You will also notice remarkable textural changes where your hairs will finally look more fuller and healthier.
What you must do:
There will be another hair consultation review at this point. The doctor will take photos at different angles to document the progress. All you really have to do now is to enjoy your new look.
The full effect of your hair transplant surgery, whether if it is an FUT or FUE procedure, will be most noticeable within 12-18 months. Also understand that each client heals differently. Your journey may be slightly different from the next patient. This is why we emphasize the importance of return check-ups because this allows us to monitor your healing process, and also for you to understand the changes.
